Traditional festive costume - Ankara / Turkey. Late-Ottoman.

A traditional festive ensemble (‘şalvar’/baggy trousers + ‘cepken’/long-sleeved vest) from the Ankara province. Late-Ottoman, circa 1900. Adorned with goldwork embroidery (in ‘Maraş işi’-technique) on silk. Trousers and vest were purchased in Ankara in 1991. (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
