  • Background wall and type of rocks look like in Malta. The jewellery may indicate Palestine?

  • Or perhaps Jordan

  • A cross, the coin necklace, the hair - makes me think of the Caucasus region...

  • I think the Levant (old Palestinian regions)  This would be a Christian girl, hence the cross.  I also imagine that she could be from one of the Eastern Iraqi communities (lots of Assyrian Christians there).

  • That bracelet confuses me though - looks almost Egyptian.

  • It brings me to Palestinia.  Coins, choker(coming close to the Yemeni/Ethiopian chokers. The features and he braids.

  • Wow i am impressed, many thanx for all your input.

This picture was presented in Paris a couple of months ago in an exhibition dedicated to christians from the middle east and indeed one of the first thing to be noted is the cross down from the main choker.

If we add the famous bracelets commonly found in Sinai/palestine/jordan among the bedouins and the very distinctive choker with low hanging coins, we could easily start to have a closer idea.

This is a christian woman from the AZAIZAT tribe from Jordan.

The outfit and the hairdo is that of a rural lady, which startled me as i have always thought of chritians in the subregion to be more city/village dwellers with sophisticated costumes

We have got partial answers, Mustafa was the first to say Jordan, so if you are all agreeing we would love to see if he can provide us with a mystery picture. What do you think Mustafa?

  • By the way isn't she wearing an "iznaq" of the like posted by Lynn, but one with a cross?

  • Thanks Alaa, what kind of picture do you expect.. please guide me on that.

    Thanks for the quizz

  • No big deal Mustafa. Try to find a picture of a woman wearing jewelry (for example) without giving further info, and post it. Forum members have to try to identify it !
