What an interesting collection, Preethi. The two which interest me most are the two silver ones. Do you have any more details about them? Do they include the one you bought in Sri Lanka?
Oh Preethi, what a wonderful collection. The large one is absolutely extraordinary. Congratulations on building such a refined collection.
Exquisite pieces, Preethi - Thanks for posting them. We don't see much work from this part of the world...
I love them all, but especially the refined silver beads in the right necklace and of course, the intricate focal piece of the large necklace..
Thanks everyone. Thelma, the larger gilt necklace came from the same ebay auction as the pair of earrings that Frankie posted some days ago. They were all part of a lot that was auctioned at Bonhams this January. The other silver necklace was also a lucky ebay find, and the previous owner had received it as a present in the 70's, when it was purchased in Sri Lanka. The necklace I purchased in Kandy is the one with the large coral and gilt filigree beads (the one on the inside of the two all-silver necklaces).
Betty, I love those silver beads with filigree - they are typical Sinhalese. Those beads are still being manufactured, and although I didn't find old samples when I visited the country, I did find a jeweller who was making reproductions of old jewellery. Below are the new beads he had made. Hard to tell the difference I thought.
Fabulous preethi.
I Loooooove the big gilt one in the bottom!
Happy you got one at last, i know you were craving for one! :-)
Had so far totally failed to see this! How pleasing ...
