  • I bought this silver necklace in a shop in Nairobi about 15 years ago, it is Sri Lankan, not sure of its age.  The linking of the beads is incredible, as in your bracelet, Preethi.  Indian silver snake chain.

  • what a beautiful necklace, Ann! Great necklace, thanks for showing. I only noticed now the links you describe, they are really unique!

  • Outstanding workmanship! Both Ann's necklace and Preethi's bracelet are really amazing.

It's also interesting that Ann bought the necklace in Nairobi - showing one's more the far-reaching trans-pacific connections.

  • Gorgeous necklace Ann! Here's an image from Coomaraswamy's Medieval Sinhalese Art, which shows necklaces of the type.

  • Actually not surprising that  Ann could buy this necklace in Nairobi, Kenya has a large Indian community who run many businesses in Kenya there are bound some of these beautiful family pieces comming on the market.  Luck was with you Ann.  Because in my time I haven.t seen any of these.

  • Preethi those necklaces in your pictures are exact!  The intricacy of the silver is absolutely amazing and would be very hard for a silversmith to accomplish.  Thanks for the information!
