Thank you very much, Harald. Actually they are solid and quite heavy. I am sorry as the picture does not reflect their true size. They seem much larger than they really are.

Nice, are they a matching pair (on the photo one seems bigger, but perhaps that is the angle of the photo taken). They look like very nice silver!

nice pieces. ooooh yes, they are heavy. this kind are from mali : mopti,djenné,bamako until north burkina faso.

Thank you all. Yes, Eva, they match. You are right it is the angle that gives the impression that they differ in size.

I have seen similar with a carnelian bead placed between the two thin portions worn as earrings with the thickest portion through the lobe/ ear cartilage. These look *very* thick though.
