Recently on auction Tunisian belt?

This image is from an auction that ended today. A stunning belt (?)! Would love to hear members' opinions on it.

  • Not a belt, a headdress or farq. Price for this was excellent!

  • Thanks Patti.

Yes, this was a steal at that price!

I just checked Samira Gargouri-Sethom's book, and yes it does say this is a fark. And Edith does have a few wonderful images of such headbands.

I wonder if those dark beads are garnet....

  • These are usually quite high in price ( I should know-- I have a couple and am a little poorer from those transactions!) I don't think they are really wearable, though, but the price of this one was lovely -- and it looks to be in original , fine condition. Dark red certainly could be garnets.

  • And this was item # 291054699083.

  • Patti - your collection is mind-blowing! Not one but a couple of these - you're lucky.

This doesn't look flexible and so yes, probably not wearable, unless one is a Tunisian bride :) Wonder if these are reused or handed on to other family members or just disposed of after being used in weddings....

  • Lovely Farq, indeed!

The darkest beads SHOULD be garnets, i feel!

  • Did you actually buy these two jewels Preethi?
