  • Does anyone recognise this bead ?

    I wondered if it might be Chinese or SE Asian, I've not seen one before?

  • In Kabul there were beads like this, about 1.5 cm diameter, shaped like the one in the photo, and with very similar designs on them.  They were used as button type handles on the top of the old Russian samovars.  I had a samovar with button handles like this.  They were probably from China, too.  Afghanistan did not make porcelain in those days and I doubt if they do now.  The original Russian handles were more often made of turned wood knobs, but when they were too worn, these beads were used to replace them.
