Ornament - Oman

This is a large ornament from Oman. It seems to have been worn on a chain as a pendant. However, such ornaments, considerably smaller though, are usually worn as hair decorations.Very special and very rare.

  • I have never seen one like this.  Extremely fine work, this must have been made for a wealthy woman.  I love the engraving.  Congratulations Peter!!

May I ask how did you take this photograph?  I like it a lot.

  • Dear Peter,

What an intricate patterns and stunning work.  I take it is gold leaf? Very impressive. Is this the same work as what can be seen on their beautiful koran box pendants? How I love the Oman jewelry, they do not stint.!

  • beautifull and rare  hair decoration you are lucky

  • Dear All; Many thanks for your messages. Yes, it is a gorgeous and very unusual piece - I have never seen a large one like this. Anyhow, the gold plating is real gold, which comes as a thick layer on top of the silver. I have been told that they are using 9Karat gold for the jewelry. Yes, this is the same way as the Marriyah necklaces... By the way, I have just purchased (yet another one but who can resist?) a Marriyah necklace. It is gorgeous with gold crescent and star on each Maria Theresa Thaler. I will clean and post a photo in a couple of days... With kind regards. Peter

PS: Dear Lynn; I am using an iPhone 6s and a photobox... at my home in France.

  • Wow, this is amazing. All those panels must have been gilded originally... you can see where the owner's fingers have handled it. Surely it must have been crafted by an Indian jeweller. The patterns look very like the patterns on those beautiful silver anklets.

  • An incredible ornament, the first of its kind that I remember seeing.
