These are nice pieces. very comfortable to wear. I sold one with painting on it also recently. These are rare items from an area that is not really that known or excessable. These were collected by a friend of mine Pip Rau many years ago, she has a wonderful collection of ikats and other textiles also.
If you see this published example as well as all my sources have always told me this is from that district, the difference is the patterning and the back gores and patch work.The first one is from Waziristan also, the second is from Swat, (the embroidery and coloration are quite different.) I have sould about four tunics already and all were collected in that region. The feather like embroidery and variation of color and positioning of the pattern are very distinctive.
Hi, yes as you can see back,, thought i posted it, is the same style. I have had about four of these and all were about the same. One had the addition of painting on it which was really interesting and I will show detail of it in next post so you can see it. Was really a nice one. In any event I would likely not see many of these other then the ones I have had as all were collected many years ago. I get them from dealers who had been to the region and have had them stored. I never saw them just for sale from regular suppliers. In the old days, I did have some suppliers that had alot of Khohistan and Swat pieces , but those too have all but gone. I wear them myself all the time and love them and wish I could find more to use.. I like selling but frankly I hate to see them go since they are hard to replace.
Yes I can see the style difference.. No never saw these and only have dealt with earlier models. I have two kinds of clients. The ones who wear like myself and like the old stuff but would wear later stuff too. Fashion people who don't care at all how old it is and like things that look good or that they can copy to make new designs. and the best category and most of the real clients , ones that only collect, never wear and only want things pre 1930's like museum quality. Most of the costume clients are like this. But then half are the wearible type like me.. so it makes it interesting. I only buy what I can wear but I wear fashion also and not just old ethnic stuff. I mix it. similarly I have several of those types of ladies that want to not look like a hippy but more fashion forward. I can sell from photos to group 3 but I need the items for all the wearer types. To me the cut of this is much more like a savar top in India and looks like that body style with the old style embroidery. Most of my clients would not like this but would like the tops that were more traditional. I sold one large Khohistan top to the editor of Woman's Wear Daily to wear over slim pants. The shape is important and even though this is more modern it is not as well liked for the drape and how it's worn for the clients I have.
