Omani head dress

A head dress I was shown at a dealer's in Nizwa, Oman. This was part of his personal collection and not for sale. But he was immensely proud of it and was happy to explain that this piece is signed by the maker. Also, the motifs used in the triangular elements on the side are motifs that the maker typically used. I am told that the Arabic inscription reads 'Malbouss al Afiya' or 'Wear it in good health'.

  • Dear Preethi; I have recognized my type of earrings there! I have also a head dress ... I may now as well combine the two... However, I am pleased that the dealers understand their heritage now much better and keep important pieces for themselves! The last time when the price of silver went up, a lot of the old silver jewelry was melted down as they could get much more money for it as if they would have sold it as jewelry. This was sad, but reading your report, makes me truly happy! With kind regards. Peter
