Two old Tuareg tcherots from Mali. Brass and copper.
nice, I have similar ones, perhaps I should add them too. The edges of the the square ones have different metal types, this is in order to protect the bearer. You have them nicely polished... ! I recently did that too, but not as good as you....!
Ok, I just added the photo of the two. They are also made of brass, copper and a 3rd metal. I like the decorations on the one at right, the triangles made with dotted lines. Looks nice!
Eva, the tcherots were black, couldn't see any coloured metal at all, and I probably couldn't stop polishing them, which is a shame really. The tiny one with dotted lines is very sweet.
I like the different metal types on the edges in order to protect the bearer, thank you for that information.
You have done a very good job with polishing. Brass is a difficult material, no matter what one does, after a while, it looks bad, and has to be polished again and again... But they are sweet, especially the little one. I have uploaded meanwhile my two brass tchérots from Mali...I enclose the picture here just to have a look.
Eva, you have some wonderful pictures of your time in Mali, absolutely fascinating.......I love the Tuareg silverwork and jewellery, it is my favourite. In fact I love the Africans!
We are going back to Africa in May for a holiday and taking friends with us, but to Kenya and Tanzania.
We miss Africa and Africans and when I see them in the market where I have a stall I always make a pass at talking to them.
I will be buying beads and maybe silver (if the Yemen man is around) whilst in Nairobi from the W.African men who have taken over a hotel there and have rooms full of new/very old trade beads/wooden items/beaded chairs/textiles - heaven on earth, and I never have enough cash, and they don't take card!
