  • Thank you Eva and Toya, it is a very nice old spirit lock and I adore it.  I bought it from Silva, Oldbeads.com

  • Lovely creation, what is a spirit lock? lovely shape and work.

  • Hi Ingrid:  Spirit locks are metal padlock shaped pendants worn around the neck.  They function as amulets to 'lock' the soul of a person into his or her body in the case of illness, accident or spiritual malaise. Spirit locks are primarily worn by the Hmong and Akha hilltribe people of Thailand, Burma and Laos.

  • Thanks Eva!   I was just about to answer Ingrid.

  • Hi Ann, nice link, I just read there also about the Ethiopian cross and it s history,  well and short written..

  • Thank you Eva and Ann, Very interesting.  It looks as if the force lays in the bows on top I saw in different shapes on your links (Eva they wouldn.'t let me in on one of the sites.  Have to read it once again.  Thank you.

  • What a truly lovely piece  - I have never seem such an elaborate sprit lock. The once I have seen before  usually had had  engravings, but no filigree work or granulation. Do you  happen to know where it hails from or how old it might be?
