odd old ornaments for headress

I've never seen the cone-shaped ornaments before. I'm guessing from the Tata region of the Souss. They are rather fragrant and were used for holding incense. The bottom right piece rattles with dried spices!

  • I have got one similar, purchased some years ago but have to confess that it was the only one i have ever seen, so having 4 at a time is quite a surprise.

     

    Along with the round one theyr are only used as hair and head ornaments around the oasises south of the anti atlas by the harratines mainly in the middle of the draa valley (jebel bani..)

     

    The one i have priduces a rattle sound as well

  • I had never seen then before at all.  Two are more vintage and almost identical (the top two) and the others are much older by way of wear patterns.  They were purchased from the same dealer.
  • I like the cone-shaped ones, they are kind of cute!
