  • The decorations on each finger include elements, such as the diamond shapes and the final cut-out circles, which can be found on other Pashtun items of jewellery. But the use of the fingers is unusual.

  • Spectacular, and great photography too.  Do you wear it?

  • Thelma, this isgreat. I remember youwrote lasttime that some nice items are coming. Yes it is a great necklace

  • Thanks Lynn and thanks Ait. @Lynn, yes, I have worn it and it looks great over a black top ... a nicely fitting collar. @Ait, yes, this is a bit different from the buttons ... but there is something yet more unusual I want to show you later :)) It may take time.

  • 2506015447?profile=original2506015447?profile=originalThere has always been a question in my mind about the identity of this necklace. Although I was assured by an expert on Afghan jewellery that it was a nomadic Pashtun piece, I have been unable to find another that uses silver fingers in this way. I will attach a picture of the back of the necklace which shows the way the fingers are constructed and attached. If anyone has seen another like this, I'd be glad to know

  • Thelma, I remembered you posted a question about whether this was Afghan.  I had some books open tonight so here is an example with tube fingers attributed as Afghan by Saad Al-Jadir in Arab and Islamic Silver.  Not nearly as nice as yours!  I believe there is another example in Shmuck in Afghanistan but I did not have that book handy when I took the photograph.

  • Thanks very much for this information, Lynn. I'll have a look in Janata to see if I can find the piece you mentioned.

  • Just splendid!
