Dear Betty and Ingrid; this necklace is way over 100 years old. I expect it to be around 120-130 years old. When looking at it and during the cleaning process I had the feeling that this piece used to be buried once - however, this is just an assumption.
With regards to the cord, please note that you can find quite different ones and I assume that it depends very much on the persons, who were involved in the manufacturing of this necklace/cord. I can post tomorrow a photo of another necklace, which has a much finer and more intricate cord. With kind regards. Peter

Another fantastic necklace! Heavily oxidised...it would be a shame to clean it as the patina tells its own story. I like the idea of it being buried, but I wonder if coral could survive that for long?!

Oops Charlotte, I have cleaned it already... (this photo was taken before the cleaning). However, I am just cleaning off the dirt and dust from my pieces and you would be surprised what you can find underneath... so, the patina is still there and the piece is luxuriously glowing - the Omani silver is magnificent! Dear Frankie; Many thanks for your message. No, I did not change my hunting ground. These Omani jewelry are with me since already quite some years - I used to be wild for Omani pieces and have a rather large collection. I have been traveling many times to Oman. However, the really fancy pieces have become very scarce and if you do find them, they are extremely expensive. Having said that, the Omani jewelry is definitely among my favorites. If you want, I can post some more...! With kind regards. Peter
