Necklace reworked from Hadramaut original

This is a necklace which I believe was reworked at some point from an original all-silver necklace. The red beads are glass with the exception of the central one, which is coral. The major components are silver, the tiny beads are nickel. This necklace feels very nice on the neck.

  • Again Lynn, I do recognize the parts on this necklace as part of a Muria (wedding necklace ) worn as a choaker in Ethiopia and Yemen.  The red beads looks to be me not of glass but of corral powder (reconstituted into beads, I think done in India.  Beautiful silver work again and lovely pattina. Originally where the red and silver beads are should have been completely with the silver sticks.

But I do like the necklace as it is and a new life has been given to the beautiful parts.  Enjoy!

  • Ingrid, thanks so much for your comment.  I did not know that the beads were of coral powder so I am very happy to learn something new!
