  • Are these poppies?

  • So lovely, I have never seen anything like it.  Are the chains a recent addition?

  • Dear Hillary and Lynn; Many thanks for your messages. Now that you say it Hillary, these could well be poppies! I have studied this piece a long time and compared panel by panel. Each panel is different, hence, they are not made by a mold but each panel is individually crafted. The chains are part of the necklace and are typical Iraqi in style. This is also why I have allocated this piece to Iraq. I found this necklace some 5 years ago in a shop in Aqaba. It stood out as it was completely different than anything else on the wall, featuring mostly Bedouin jewelry. With kind regards. Peter

  • Lovely piece Peter. Very interesting information you provided on this necklace. It is nice that you hare this with us. Thanks for that Peter.  Mustafa

  • Very beautiful and unusual, Peter. It somehow has an art deco-ish feel to it and also reminds me of some pieces I saw in the Caucasus made by very skilled silversmith during the Soviet Era. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards, Betty

  • Yes, I agree with Betty, Peter. Very unusual. Have you any idea how old it is? The beautiful poppy-like flowers are like a reflection of the flowers on the plates themselves. Great craftsmanship.

  • Dear All; Many thanks for your messages. I do unfortunately not really know how old it is, however, I would estimate it to be from around the first part to the mid of the 20th Century. With kind regards. Peter
