Necklace from the Philippines

From the Philippines. Very fine, large necklace ("sipatal"), composed of mother-of-pearl and tiny glass beads, strung on pineapple fibre. This type of necklace could be worn by men, women, and children. Northern Luzon: Isneg people; 19th/20th century. Width (of the shell section) as shown is 45 cm.   • This is a very good example of this type of Phlippino necklace, old examples like this one are not very hard to get.
