Made for the tourist trade, but a lovely, traditional-styled ensemble with nice, muted colors!
Hillary, what makes you think that it is for the tourist trade?
I will add that this piece is at least 10-15 years old at the very least as I have had it almost that long - and suspect that my aunt had it longer than that...The threads are clearly old and worn and dusty - definite "smell" of age...But....
Bead use...
Central bead is a repro of an older Tiznit bead, this type of copy is produced in and around Tarroudant in southern Morocco.
Indian made glass 'crumb / end of day' beads these are something which we have seen in Morocco since the 1990's
Prossers beads ..originally made in Europe in the early part of the century, when the factories in France owned by batterposses closed, the machinary was sold to a company in Morocco. The pitted surface was developed in Morocco to imitate coral,
So all in all I agree with Hillary, this piece was made for the tourist market,
Likely in Marrakech, and within the last 15 - 20 years.
