Marriage crowns. Gallipoli/Gelibolu, Turkey. 'Rum', 19th c. Benaki Museum.

Marriage crowns from the church of the Virgin in Kallipolis/Gelibolu (in the north of the Çanakkale province). 'Rum' (Anatolian Greek), dated 1866. 18 cm diameter. The bridegroom's crown is the top one; the bottom one is for the bride. (Benaki Museum, Athens).

    The orthodox crowns, Also in the Coptic church of Ethiopia, marriage in the church is done with a crown holding above the heads of the groom and bride and they walk a cross with the blessing of the priest and incence burners.
