Mali Bride

Look at all her wonderful decorations and jewellery! She just got married a few days ago, someone from my Family. Isn't she beautiful! The headdress is of pure Gold, by the way! When I heard it the first time, I was shocked (I thought it was guilded. The headdress is usually passed on for weddings within the Family)

  • Hello Eva and welcome back! Hope you are now permanently back online...

Beautiful young lady and gorgeous jewellery - the headdress looks stunning!

  • Beautiful girl and stunning jewellery. Thank you for showing Eva.

  • Lovely from the field reporting.

It is nice to see these traditions are still kept alive

BTW, EVA when you were travelling there, have you seen these gorgeous head ornaments being sold or are they only kept by some families and given to newly weds for their marriage?

  • Thank you for the Feature!

Alaa Eddine Sagid: I really really wanted to have one like this! I asked my sister-in-law (the bride on the Photo) to fine one for me, she was running around and she told me, no, she could not find any. They are realy Gold and not sold, they are, as you assumed, passed on within the families. Nevertheless, sometime they are old or broken, so there must be new ones made...... I suppose These are made on order by Special jewellers. Also I was told it would be too expensive to buy, even if they found one, because it is real massive Gold (not guilded), and therefore too expensive for one Person to buy.....................! I really wanted to buy one, believe me! I was wearing one some 14 years ago....but it was just given to me for the Event.

  • Gorgeous woman!  What a beautiful complextion!  The ornaments are completely traditional so wonderful to see her not buckle under and keep it up.  The make up and Henna are also beautiful.

  • Everything is beautiful about this, Eva... the bride, the jewellery, the henna, the dress ...and the bride's expression. She looks very happy. Was this taken before or after the wedding? Where is the groom? Does he also wear something special?

  • Thank you  Linda and Thelma, I do not know at which instant it was taken.... The groom normally wears a suit made of this typical African waxed-cotton (pastel colours and shiny from the wax). I wanted to Show the decorations of the bride. .In fact, it is her second mariage, the first one did not work. This happends also in Africa..............
