Traditional ‘gerdanlık’ (tight-fitting necklace) from northwestern Anatolia. Early 20th century. Silvery alloy, green glass paste, glass beads; the larger beads on both ends are recent plastic ones. Purchased in Bursa. These necklaces-with-beads are the poor-people-version of the much richer necklaces (with only silver, and originating from wealthier households) that can be seen in museums. (Inv.nr. müç009 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
