I have never seen such a piece before! You think it's Kurdish. The dangles are very unique. The piece as a whole spontaneously reminded me of the Palestinian necklaces with their many khans pendants (forgot the name, sorry!)....
Dear Betty and Peter; I made a quick research about these Palestinian necklaces you told me about and I am lost. I observed that the threading (if I can use this word) of these dangles is similar to Palestinian pieces, but these dangles are strange (definitely not hamsa's).
Peter, I'd be very grateful if you could share with me a photograph of these Bulgarian decorations.
If you don't mind, I will put this necklace under discussion on facebook to gain some informations.
Best wishes!
Anyhow, "Hamsas" or "Hands of Fatima" (daughter or prophet Mohammed) are not always coming in the shape of actual hands. They come in all kinds of shapes and are fulfilling all the same protective purpose! What Betty meant, was rather the way the dangles are mounted on your lovely piece, which is very much like the Palestinian necklaces...
Anyhow, I am posting my Bulgarian piece now. With kind regards. Peter
