  • Silver with Niello amulets/Qraan box's from Kerak-South of Jordan, early 20th century

  • Beautiful pieces! I saw one or two similar ones before, but never knew where they were from...

Thanks for showing, Silver lover. Best regrads, Betty

  • Wonderful necklaces.  Thank you for sharing them.

  • These are very beautiful.  We have a triangular piece similar to the one on the far left, though it is missing the coins and dangles.  It has a city's name and a mosque on one side and MashaAllah on the other side.

  • These nielloed. Models have been imported throuhout the levant by circassians fleeing the caucasus following the russian wars....these people brought niello in late ottoman era mainly in Jordan and Iraq which kinda confused many about the origin of such pieces
  • Oh, these are very nice Nielloed necklaces from the Levant - Beautiful and becoming rare! Congratulations. Peter

  • Thank you all for your comments. I somehow agree with Alaa in regards to the origin on the niello work. At the end of the 19th century, Many of the Caucasus immigrated to different countries due to the wars in Russia and many of them are living there until this day. Specifically, Armenians have fled the depression to settle in main cities of the Levant and Iraq (under ottoman rule) to work in the making different handicrafts such as jewelry making and pottery. They have built a good reputation and became to be known with their beautiful artistic skills. They also brought with them the niello technique which became integrated within the local traditions of the people of those countries. Yes Peter, these pieces are becoming so rare and their prices have rocketed.Br
