Copper (Cartridges?) Container - Ottoman Levant - Photos

I bought these 5 copper containers in an antique shop outside of Amman. The shop owner is dealing with antique Middle Easter (Jordanian and Syrian) furniture. His shop is full of unrenovated (some broken) furniture from the Middle Eastern region, including some lonely European pieces. One purchases a certain piece, which he would then restore and renovate. I have seen some of these furniture items before and after - one can hardly recognize them after the renovation - amazing. He found these 5 containers in one of the cupboards and sold them to me. He did not know much of the origin or the use of these containers. They are being worn on a belt and feature corresponding fittings at the back. Does anybody know the purpose of these containers or the reason for the different designs (number and arrangement of artificial coral pieces and hammered design) on each of the units?

Very interesting Peter, though I am afraid I cannot help. The shape is of course reminiscent of Yemeni containers worn on a belt , the stamped or hammered designs and the faux coral look indeed like their arrangement is meaningful. It spontaneously reminds me of Braille script...

I second Betty comment on the yemeni poissibility.....men belt holders as silver coin purses or for ammunition?
