  i enjoyed it too Akkie. i m not a cloth person but i realy enjoyed looking at all this pieces. i will have a look moore at old cloths next trip i do home

  Wow, fantastic!  I love the mimicry of old military uniforms.  This also reminds me of Ottoman Turkish dress.

  I have a jacket for sale like this also. they liked this style I guess.  The embroidery styles are similar.

  I have not taken photos of the Ottoman stuff yet. I started with Central Asian,Pakistan etc.  I never photographed my personal cloths before so this is good for me to do it.

  I always knew these from Hazara but the book Traditional Textiles of Central Asia  by Janet Harvey suggests otherwise so that's why I put this as a question.. In the market place they have always been attributed to Hazara.  I woulsn't have thought the fronts of the dresses would have been covered with a big like this since the dresses are so decorated. Would the jewelry at one time been gold to match the dresses ?    I can already see alot of difference in the workmanship of he embroidery from then to now.. but then at least they are still wearing the costume and not something else.   Have you ever seen the old bibs with coins such as what she is wearing for sale?

  I usually go with the information I get from friends /dealers that have traveled and collected there for a long time.  I have only been in these areas once , a long time ago. I wasn't there to buy actually but to just see the place.  I wasn't paying attention to those details.  I have a group of English friends who are dealers and are well versed in buying and collecting. I tend to trust them over these books.  The book that has better information is the book Colours of the Indus from some that I have.   I agree that the photo you posted is a similar style dress but done in a way that is what is being done by that local area.. each has it's own abilities since imports of threads are limited and or different then 50 or more years ago.  If you ever get bibs of really old coins i would like to see them please.  thanks for all your information it's really helpful !    and yes  that other dress is very confusing.   The one I don't also understand is the all over Lakai type of embroidery.  I have never seen another one like it.

  Hi Linda, isn't this the dress you wore at one of the NY shows in combination with a Kazakh necklace? You looked stunning in it. Definitely one of my favorite textile pieces ever.

  OMG, what a stunner! Beautiful colour and that rich embroidery! Clothes in our department stores seem so joyless compared to this...
