Like this one also. I am assuming that it is 20th century aluminum? There was such a thing as natural aluminum in the pre-industrial age but it was very rare.
I like creepy hairy stuff! this was later mounted by owner on a stand. I like them just around though,, creepy cabinet of curiosities. anyway the aluminum was mostly from pots and pans I think.. as in Africa the recycled everything. I doubt this is natural and is from another resource.

Great photo Howah! I usually think of li as having the bone style hair pins? What book was this in,, I have tons of Chinese books on minority and never saw this photo,, it's really wonderful! I thought I scanned and had a record of my Li sticks but don't. anyway thanks..
Hi, it's from the book ' Corpus of Chinese fabric, embroidery and finery' volume 6. The whole set consists of 6 books, number 5 and 6 are about the minorities. There are some faults in the book, but on the whole it should be quite acccurate. Btw, this type of pins hairdo is not only en vogue with the Li people. The Yao people have something like this too. The South-Western minorities have many similarities in terms of adornment.
