Fine quality Miao neckpiece

Just now I posted a somewhat similar type to this which is markedly inferior. One can argue just as to when this was made, but that matters little: it is the quality which counts, and well-made pieces of this nature are rapidly disappearing. The spirals (numerous and heavy) are all made of a solid silver alloy, and the "rib" shaped components are either made of a good silver alloy or if they are "plated" the layer applied is so thick that even after repeated polishing the silver shows no sign of coming off. The "architecture" of this is excellent - very well designed and harmonious, and entirely in tune with traditional Miao taste. It is a wonderful piece, and the examples I have seen offered by dealers in the West carry a very substantial price tag. This piece is for sale, and the price would be reasonable (we are collectors, not dealers): it is surplus to requirements, as we have another. However, unlike the one with the obviously machine-made "ribs" and its comparative lack of silver this is one we cannot and will not "give away". We sold one locally a few years back for well over USD/AUD 2000, and the buyer continues to be delighted - rightly so, in our view. It is a fine, excellent quality art work. Top class contemporary Australian jewellers assure us they could not make it without learning far more, and that the production would take them ages. Even so, the piece is for genuine sale if someone sees its very real merit and would like to own it. In that case, please drop me a line. For a very similar example, see *Ethnic Jewellery and Adornment*, p. 241.
