  • it is certainly a Tuareg pendant, I would say, a modified cross, an inofficial version, but a Tuareg pendant. I don't know, which type, but have a look on my page (link will follow) where I have all the crosses listed on a picture. if I have time, I will copy the link after.

  • I looked but could not recognize the model!! But i learned something again I did not know there are 21

Niger crosses!! Eva do you think it is allright to visit Mali in the fall!!

  • @this is a question I cannot answer (visit in fall). You have to keep yourself informed about the political situation. At the moment I would not recommend it, unless you want to stay only in the south (which is nice too with Mopti and Djenné), but if you plan to see Timbuktu and the desert - that is a problem. It is only March and no-one knows how things develop! At the moment I would say NO to going north. Some of my family has had to move away temporaily due to the instable situation. It seems a bit calmer since one month ago, but I personally would not go now to Timbuktu and the line Timbuktu-Gao and further north. But this can change quickly, or worsen. Consult the embassy of your country for travel advice, but not now, in about 3 months.

  • suite: a visit to Mali depends on: 1) the area where you want to go (the dangerous area is Timbuktu and everything further north from the line Timbuktu - Gao, the lower part is ok (has nice places too, but not the desert and the nomads).   2) if you travel in a group of Europeans it is not safer than travelling alone. Mali has (except at the airport in Bamako) low criminal rates ( always with exceptions, the people in the country are usually kind and honest).  3) keep yourself informed about the political information (news, embassies, internet).  4) at the moment TImbuktu and beyond is not advisable, but it might change.  (This due to several things: Tuareg rebels who worked for Ghadaffi have returned, highly armed, and with nothing to do. So they want to create now an own state Azawad of their own  (parts of Mali, Niger, others combined). The Malian army will never accept a splitting of the north, that means, if they start to fight for Azawad (one does not know, when this could happen and IF it will happen ), there will be a civil war. You must keep informed. Only book flights, that  you can cancel with reimbursement. Sorry, I wish I could give you better news.

  • about the cross, perhaps ait ouakli or someone else will know. I have copied it and will try to find out later, I have to quit now............

  • just quick - my tip is - a modified Tahoua cross. But perhaps someone else like Ait Ouakli etc will know exactly. the main form (the middle) is Tahoua, the things on the 4 corners are just additional decoration. But I cannot give a guarantee 100% that it is a Tahoua.

  • again about the trip: What really shocked me, is that a group of Tourists was kidnapped by Maghreb Al Kaida from the garden of the hotel Amanar in Timbuktu. I know the hotel, I used to stay there years ago, before I stayed with my husbands family, it is wonderful small hotel. All these things you have to consider and inform yourself. I don't want to paint now the devil here, but be careful, ok?

  • hello

carry, as eva said. it is better not to travel now to sahara and sahel region. wait for the next sason and follow the situation. in the south mali, it is ok. no travel with agroup and it is better to have a direct discret contack there.if you decide to travel. let me know ( not the date ot the place ) just let me know that you are some day traveling , i ll e-mail you the things to do and how to moove for better safety
