  • Beautiful Eva and quite unusual. Splendid display as  ever...........from your Ethiopian dealer? You must start saving for an Ethiopian trip, you are becoming a bit of an expert and would love it!

  •  @Thanks Chantal. No, this is not from my Ethiopian dealer, I found this .... on Ebay. But it is so far the only Ethiopian item this seller had.  I was just lucky. I have brushed them now carefully with a very soft toothbrush and soap, and I am sure that the centre plate (the round one), has been guilded, similar to certain hairpins! What a nice discovery!

  • I really love this style

Eva, we have been witnessing the steady growth of your ethiopian collection, congratulations and keep up the good work you are becoming our ethiopian jewels expert :-)

  • @Ayis:thank you very much! Very nicely said. Of course I also collect Malian items... But I will continue looking for Ethiopian items...... that is sure!

  • These earrings are worn by the women of the Harague province, eastern Ethiopia against Somalia. The empty loops should hold a chain to connect the two earrings and to support the weight . It was worn with the chain over the head. Because of its weight the attractive decorated knobs are hanging downwards and if daily worn the holes in the earlobes are very large. (it is mostly worn by the women from the country side). Large pieces are often more country side and more refined from the towns.

  • Eva, I just got your mail . Thank you for accepting me and am so happy to have found this site to make friends with collectors who have the love for it as well. I am back in the Netherlands for quite a number of years I felt very lonely with my treasures and love to share my knowledge and to learn more about them and related artifacts .

  • Fills me with joy when we can connect and share in this way x
And I agree .......Eva I am enjoying seeing your Ethiopian collection grow. And now discussion between us with such valuable input from Ingrid too will add to the depth of knowledge and understanding which this site is all about!!
  • Lovely Malian leather too!
  • @Thanks to all of you. Ingrid, thanks for the Information, which is sensational (to know all this!). I am really happy about all this info and that you are here. I am just dead tired, so I keep short.  About the Ethiopian items - am expecting someone back from an Ethiopian trip who promised to bring me "things". Have not heard from him yet.

  • These are lovely. Great find.
