Many thanks for your kind comments. I agree with you, these earrings are really beautifully worn. It took me ages to single this matching pair out of the pile of earrings - all similar but then not matching... With kind regards. Peter
Dear Peter, I wonder if those earrings were worn a s a single by men. I do have a set of Eritrea also not completely matching. And I was told by older men of Eritrea that they remembered from their youth that some fancy men were wearing it but a single earring. Gr. Ingrid.
Dear Ingrid,
Many thanks for your message. This is an interesting thought. However, I have never seen a photo of a Saudi man, wearing an earring. They are real "machos" here and also due to religion, they are not wearing any gold jewelry - silver (or maybe white gold) rings with all kinds of stones are however, popular. Your Eritrean earrings are very beautiful - amazing how the patterns have traveled...
With kind regards.
Peter
Dear Peter, Even in Ethiopia and Eritrea men are not to be see with jewelry. perhaps like you said a wedding ring and perhaps a coptic cross or a protective amulet. But I am here talking about some odd 70-80 yrs. ago. Gr. Ingrid.
