I love these!
I had forgotten in India they have a hand symbol also which is a fatter version of the more usual. Hamsa hand which for Indians relates to the mudras and chakras. in the old days, (sometimes in rural communities) the hand symbolizes the womself-immolation of a woman on her husband's funeral pyre - was outlawed by the British administration in India in 1829, who have given up their lives when their husbands die. I have a sati stone which was from the wall of a building , in marble from around the 18th c .. i believe a recent Sati burning took place in the late 1980's , at least while i was there living in India.
