  • Such a beautiful and obviously old tumar and bozbend.  Congratulations, Marie-Ange.  Can anyone say whether there is a linguistic relation between the *bozbend* and the *bazuband.*  Though Afghanistan has both types of ornamentation, there is no root relationship between the Mongolian languages (Chinese or Turkic) and the Persian, which goes back to Hindi and Sanskrit, as English does.  The members of this group know something about everything, so I like to ask question.  I learn!

  • Marie Ange where is Yomud???

  • Yomud is part of the Turkmen tribe.

  • I did not know! I see you have been adding beautiful pieces to your collection Marie-Ange!!

So maybe You can make a book of just your collection in the future!!

  • Thanks Carry, no my collection is very small and not very spectacular when I compare with many others but I am happy with my jewelry and wear it proudly!

  • Nice to see you have bought this, Marie-Ange. I remember discussing it with Linda at some point in the past. It's not at all a common piece. I like the distinctive Yomud elements, as always. And it is great to see lively interaction, including buying and selling, among members of "ethnic jewels"! @ Anna: I googled both "bozbend" and "bazuband", and there are several places, of course, where you can find either / both discussed, but I didn't (looking only superficially) see any discussion of a linguistic connection. I know nothing about the linguistic issues myself, so wish I could help you further but can't!

  • Thank you Joost, in fact this Yomud case is live even nicer than in the photo's, I remember it was you that recommended Linda's pieces to me, thanks a lot for that!

  • verry beautiful

  • You are right, Marie-Ange: I do remember how, long ago as it now seems, I suggested that Linda was an excellent person for you to buy from, and my recommendation was based on our having been regular and satisfied customers of hers for, I believe, about 11 years. That may not seem that long - and of course Linda and we had been collecting for decades before then, but somehow there had been no contact, perhaps because we don't often visit the US, and it is to be remembered that even then the internet was far less advanced than now. Also, Linda had (and has) no website. I even so came across her somewhere in a hard copy publication illustrating a pari of wonderful Miao earrings. And that is how we started ... Always on-line, and even now Linda and Truus and I have never even met! But, over the years, there have been some hundreds of emails ... I am very glad that the two of you have hit it off well and that you are buying from her and that she is selling to you. That is one great thing about websites like these: they do (or can) lead to significant practical results.
