  • beautiful beads, all three. Looking old to me. Are the designs another material than the bead itself, like p.e. albast or marmer into clay and than baked? Really special for me.

  • I really know very little about this bead.It is only one,,large 2.5 inches long and approx.1 inch at the middle. It is quite possibly glass that has been etched,as the designs are etched in.I only wished that someone had seen another like, and could comment on the origin or date .I think it was buried for a while,as i see lots of sand and dried dirt inside, but that is a trick also that is used on reproductions here in Afghanistan.I thought only, that it possibly could be early Persian?Only a thought though.

  • Could i see an image showing the perforation please.
    Thanks. Sx
  • Hi Sarah,,will do ,,I will send a little later.Thanks

  • The white design is lampworked glass on a black glass core.
  • Possibly roman but very difficult to accurately attribute without seeing such an item in person.
  • Hi,and thanks for all comments. If Roman, can you estimate date?

  • Bead research of this type is time consuming and difficult, to make the next step in invetigatons to either rule in or out the origin i would study the beads of fustat in egypt to see if i could find similarities
Although many beads from there were folded glass or rolled pad style...yours appears to be a wound core with lampwork....
  • Thanks again for all.

  • Anoher look, and i am now unsure if this is in fact a wound core! As i said ancients are tricky to place and need to be seen in person, !
