Sarah, do you mean Daghestan? or is dagsetani a part of Morocco I have not heard about (which is perfectly possible) _-I only ask because of the spelling and because this pendant appears to be niello which is a hallmark of Caucasian work.
Nice and cute object Sarah, Where was it used for? Make-up? scent?
( Daghestan is a Russian republic of the North Caucasus, Patricia)
Hi Patti,
I found this with Abril!
It is indeed Caucasian.
There is a blue residue inside and a faint aroma...not unpleasant!
Any info greatly appreciated

Actually, as someone has mentioned, it looks like a perfume amulet that would be part of a more elaborate piece. I have a Tunisian fibule that contains perfume amulets like this. Is that writing on it near the clasp?
Hi Sarah,
I think I have found the purpose of this little box in a German catalogue of an Afghanistan exhibition. It is a seal ink box, container for ink in solid form. The little box maybe belonged to a merchant, judge or high official.
It contained ink for cachets and sealrings. Important items in a country with a lot of illiterates.
Photo; agate and brass seal, ink containers. The right one has also niello.
Johanne I am so so grateful to you for this
Many many thanks

Great sleuthing, Johanne!
I remember seeing it in the shop - so different from all the others. Sarah`s sharp eyes picked it out from the rest of the things.
I had no idea what the purpose of such a little thing might be.
