very nice and interesting! I have seen these bone amulettes (but without chains), it Looks much nicer with the beautiful trade beads!
Do you know what bones they are made of?

Good morning Sarah and Eva, I was told that they are made of camel bone, they do sound very compacked but I am not sure could very well be oxen bone. The important point on this amulets are the eyes decoration. They are worn in two pieces on the long beaded chain. The eyes is to ward off the evil. Just like the Greeks have their eye. And it is done by a shaman. Also the eye beads (red with white eyes) believed for the same purpose. So.......double up, these are strung up on a leather strap.
@Thank you Ingrid ! Nice to know. Perhaps I need a pair....... I am sick since 2 days.... and feel miserable. The only eye bead I have, is a modern big bead from Turkey. I thought it was only decoration (the round signs), now I have looked at them closer - they are full of eyes......
(But I have many "gris-gris" from the Sahara (Mali), some even made on the spot for me personally (made of leather and Little mirrors)
Amulets are supposed to have strength for the one it was made for, and I think if handed over from that person to the next. Also if pieces have been taken apart it looses its strength. So Eva-girl, just pamper yourself the coming days and hope you will feel better soon. Gr. Ingrid.
Well Eva. I don.t know maybe deep down are you sure you belief in it? Just look after yourself and take your rest the sooner you feel better.With all your lovely things around you gives also a relaxed atmosphere!
@Thank you Ingrid... I just put a photo here showing Malian (Desert) amulettes, made personally for me by nomad women (further North than Timbuktu). They really are very Special and I will always Keep them... Someday I might acquire the Ethiopian bone Pendants too.....(on my wish list), but now I am waíting at first for the telsums............ These Ethiopian bone Pendants look so much better with the beads! I only saw them separate (alone) before! As Sarah said, the combination (of beads and amulettes) is fantastic! It rises it s value in Beauty (and probably in protection) a lot!
Just for Information: I have found such a necklace on Africa Direct, they sell it for Dlrs. 385.00, with red eye beads and feaather beads, very similar to this one. (This is not within my Budget, to say it mildly), but I thought perhaps it is interesting for you to know this Price.
