Chinese "Amber" & Silver Export Necklace.

I`m cheating here really since this is perhaps not strictly ethnic, being made for the export market. Also I`m hazy about its` date - anything from the 1920s to the 1950s is my best guess.the plaques (left to right) represent a horse, a phoenix, flowers, a dragon and a horse again. The silver tests as very good. The plaques are not bakelite and certainly aren`t amber - a plastic substitue I suppose. I can`t even tell if they are carved or moulded but the detail is good.

  • ah, on this photo one can see that there is a picture carved or formed otherwise on the amber......I can recognize some of the figures, but not all..

  • very nice and ethnic in its own right.

  • Good to hear that from you, Howah. I was a little wary about showing it. I have no depth of knowledge of Chinese jewellery though I know most of the older stuff is exquisitely crafted. I`m also aware that it`s being bought be homeland Chinese sometimes for very high prices, and why not? so I was glad to be able to own a little!

  • This is like bracelets done at same time with similar shapes,, some have enameling some are like this. These are from the 20's and 30's mostly  done for some times Western tastes and Britishers..
