Chin chain or iznaq from Bethlehem, Palestine

This was worn by Bethlehem city/town women, connected to the headdress by the hooks and dangling just beneath the chin. I have also seen photos of women wearing them with the hooks connected in back, as a necklace. This is how I wear it. It is about 800 silver and a dramatic jewel.

    I  own a piece with lots of small beads similar to the one in your headdress, but gilded which also ends in two sharp hooks (very likely was a head or chest ornament, too). Like you, I wear it as a necklace using a simple jump ring to connect the hooks.

  • My piece is very different. It's only the hooks and the bead that are similar - and I also believe it to have been a chin chain. Here's a link showing a pic:
