  • wow, this is really something special. thank you Linda for sharing this incredible piece with us.

  • Hi I'm going to write the person and see if she wants to sell it back... she was not a jewelry buyer and just purchased interesting items but I doubt she realizes how rare it is and would love to get it again.

This piece is possibly 18th c because the characteristics of the way it is made make me think it is earlier than 19th.  The tassels and the way the gilding is done remind me of 18th c items.

  • Fantastic. Most exceptional and of superlative - distinctly top of the tree and museum quality. Truly outstanding. You may be right about it being pre-19th c, too, as the work is especially well defined and very deep (that depth is frequent among earlier pieces). However, it's no less goo if it is early 19th - but I can't see it as later than that. One of the very best pieces you have possessed and shown, in my view, and that is really saying something ... And attractively different. It certainly would in my eyes be a treasure to get. But whether you will still succeed now .. Well, try it!!

  • I sold this piece about 12 years ago along with Hunawali finials from the 16th c to the same person.

She might give the ornament up if I call and ask or at least tell her I can sell it when she is ready if she decides.

  • It is certainly an extraordinarily great piece, and a real joy to behold. One not just to die for, but also to die WITH - that is, if we owned it, I'd never want to sell it for as long as I'd be alive to enjoy it. Amazing! Do you have any more such surprises to come?? For even among several good pieces you have just posted this certainly does stand out!!

  • good luck to you Linda with retrieving this magnificent piece! I hope you succeed.

  • This is a stunning piece.  Would it have been worn like a military gorget?

  • similarly but this is an official rank badge worn by members of the ruling class. Similarly in Chinese custom to wear a fabric one in their garments.

  • It is a very good, sharp photo, and at least one can enjoy it greatly that way. Such a great piece to post - thanks.

  • I do love this - a truly great piece.
