Bridal headgear with mirrors. Eğirdir (Isparta) / Turkey. Late 20th century.

A bridal headgear from the Eğirdir district (to the northeast of Isparta). Style: rural, second half of 20th century. Mirrors in a bride’s costume or headgear have a protective function: they are amulets against the ‘evil eye’, which is believed to be a power possessed by some people, that causes harm, injury, misfortune and even death.
