  • How nice to see how worn this bracelet is . I have a pair but the ponited spikes are still sharp!!

  • beautiful old piece. i agree with you carry. longer worn. is it possible to have a photo of the writing snela ??

  • I've posted photo of the snela, would appretiate your opinion on the writing.

  • sorry Cecilia. i meant with snella or snella the word please in swedisch :-) it is a beautiful bracelet the writing or signature interested me.  thank you

  • Cecillia, This is one of the Rashaida anklets, the nomadic people from the desserts of Ethiopia,Eritrea and up.  If it was the smaller version  which are worn on the upper arm than it is Yemeni or Harrar (town) or Harrarrque (province). Always in pairs. If you bought this bracelet and the pendant in the same lot, it both came from Ethiopia.

  • Ingrid, this is probably a bracelet, fits my arm very well and I only have one. It is not bought from the same seller. I would be very interested to know more about the engraved text, is it the makers signature or does it refer to the owner?

  • Cecillia, You bracelet is really an anklet. Bracelets do not have  name tags.  I will make a photo tonight of a bracelet.  Unfortunately I am not sure if it is a islam text or the name of the owner.  I will check on the sets I have if the writing is the same  and will let you know.  And make a photo of it to show to our members who can read arabic.

  • Cecillia , I have just posted the comparable anklets from Rashaida compare to the bracelet from Harrar and can also be of Yemen, but this one is from Ethiopia.  Look also how small the diamand shapes are compared to the anklet diamand shape.  On two other photos I have posted a set of anklets also of the RashAida with the texting.  And I hope that some of our members can decipher it, hopefully Ait Oakli or Sagid. The pendant will have to wait for a couple of weeks before I have time to seatch through my items, which at the moment are not very organized.

  • Ingrid, thank you for posting photos, they are very similar. Are you sure this could function as an anklet. The inner diameter is 6 cm (outer diameter 11 cm) and I do not see how a foot would fit through. Weight 178 gr.

  • Cecillia, You are right they are bracelets, because anklets are either open or hinged.  Sorry for confusing you. But the large sized ones are RashAida from Ethiopia into Egypts and the smaller ones from Yemen and Harrar.
