Berber coral necklace-Draa Valley

This is an old necklace of coral, amber, silver, and glass. Any help in identifying the silver beads and pendants would be most appreciated.

  • Wahhh. Absolutely awsome. Congratulations. Have you had it long or is it a recent acquisition?

  • Beautiful necklace! Beautiful coral !

The 2 conical silver beads are seen in the head jewelry of the: Ait Isfoul (Todhra), Ait Atta, Ait Yazza.

And in the amber bead (big ones) necklaces of the: Ait Seddrate (Dades), Ait Mrao (El-Hot).

There is a little difference with your beads they all have long conical hollow silver dangles as seen at the bottom of your necklace. May be yours have been replaced in time?

The big silver bead is seen in many necklaces specially the big amber necklaces from: Ait Achmet (Bou-Trarhar) and also in Dra valley.

  • Harald-Thank you so much for the detailed information about the components of this necklace. Everything is old and worn and the silver parts have dents, but I just love it.

  • I can imagine you love it because as I mentioned it is a beautiful necklace and the different parts look very old. And good old coral (not that awful modern stuff from China)!

  • This seems typical of the  High Atlas area but Sarah would know best.

  • Wow Toya, this is a knock out necklace, congratulations on your find!!

  • Thank you everyone for commenting on my new treasure.
