  Thanks, Marie-Ange, it`s an ambition realised.

  Now I`d like to go and such being made. But maybe not for much longer. The Varanasi enamellers of this kind of enamelling are much reduced. Only ten left working on gold, twenty-five working on silver. It has survived since it was introduced by immigrant Persians in the 17th century.

  As with many such artisan skills, It`s a dieing art.

  Thank you for the links, Joost. I had already contacted Linda about her example before I made an eBay purchase of the one I show (mistitled there - always good to come across that from the point of view of successful bidding). The bracelet shown in the artfact link, though I can see that it`s very beautiful and hugely skillfully made, is not to my personal taste.

  The "gulabi mina", pink enamel of the Benares variety is inextricably linked in my own mind with Indian gulab cakes which are soaked in rose syrup, gulab being from the word fulab - rose. Rather a nice association to have!
