Belt Buckle - Bukhara

While looking gorgeous in the front, this is a very complex buckle with a fantastic mechanical closure. I will post another photo from the mechanical closure at the back of this buckle. It is finely chiseled and the background is black sealing wax. It has Russian-style hallmarkson the reverse, but they are native interpretations. Light remains of gilding to theobverse.

  • This looks like it was enameled or is enameled.  What is the surface like, Peter?  The buckle has stunning form and presentation!

  • Many thanks Hillary. The buckle is silver with some gilding but the black background is sealing wax, which makes the three-dimensional shape even stand out more. This is an extraordinary piece by a true master, especially also when considering the locking mechanism, which I have never come across with other belts. With this buckle, I bought a full Bukhara Belt, another stunning Bukhara buckle and two Circassian Buckles from the 18th and 19th Century. They are all remarkably stunning and I will post them the next time, I am at my home... With kind regards and best wishes. Peter

  • Peter this is a breathtaking buckle!  I agree it is the work of a true master.  Definitely worthy of being published in the book we all want you to write.  :)

  • I am also in awe! What an exciting find. My congratulations, Peter!

  • Yes, I agree with all favourable comments, and especially like the 3D effect created. This one is quite different from others that are more commonly seen and which are smooth all over. Most interesting and effective. You continue to find really great pieces, Peter!
