Basotho Grain Baskets

These baskets are called "sesiu" and come in small and large sizes. They are used to store grain. The outside may be coated with mud, in which case they become air-tight, preventing oxidation of the stored contents. Unfortunately, these baskets are disappearing as they are being replaced by Chinese made plastic containers.

    So sad to see all these crafts and skills disappear while in europe and north america people struggle to retrieve what we have lost and come back to a much more "organic life" opposite to the all-plastic, all-technic, all-artificial way of life!!
