  • It hurts me to see her ears, but at least she can eat and talk normally.........! I don't like it, but find it less tragic than the lip plates.

  • Actually, Eva, in this culture and several others extended ear lobes like these are not only common, but also not in fact painful. The habit of extending the earlobes starts at a very early age, and the stretching takes place very gradually, over several years. What this woman is wearing, by the way, seems light by comparison with what you see in other cases.

  • Indeed, the slow stretching that is common in many cultures is almost painless. And I do believe the respect and cultural identity she has gained from this far outweighs the discomfort.
