Amharic Pendant Welo Province

old Amharic Pendant from the Province of Welo, Ethiopia, 6 x 6 cm, sweet tiny little beads on the bottom. Material: base probably very low grade silver (if at all), granules and wires are better silver, in the 3 rounds were originally 3 stones, 2 are missing, one is left (impossible to say what it is, it seems light green to colourless). Seller has no info about age, but says, it is antique. Am in a hurry, will post more pics later.

Dear Eva: This pendant is great. You are absolutely right, I would not replace the missing stones either. It is beautiful as it is and it should definitely not be changed. I have visited Ethiopia back in 1982 with my mother - it was one of the best trips we ever made, even though it was quite dangerous at times - and full of soviet propaganda... Regards. Peter

@Dear Peter, thanks a lot for your comment. (The changement proposition was made because I repaired recently an old Harar pendant with FImo baked in the oven! That was a different piece which looked bad with missing red glass pearls and gained a lot by repair). This one is different. Unfortunately I have not been to Ethiopia! Difficult for me to go there, since my husband is from Mali and we go to Mali, if we have money for trip and gifts (a lot of support goes to Mali especially since the political turmoils in the north (with nearly all my family had to flee south or into Niger ). I love the Ethiopian style and it is a nice counterweight to my Malian (most Tuareg) pieces. I'd love to travel to Ethiopia... perhaps some day.

Dear Eva: thanks for your message. Mali is surely on my travel list. However, due the current turbulences, this trip will have to wait. Sana'a will be next in coming June. I am waiting for my visa. This will be my second time to this beautiful land. By the way, Yemen is very similar to Ethiopia. Once back, I will tell you of my experiences there. With my best wishes. Peter
