  these are called "brim" anklets available in different sizes some times very large always with snake heads finials.....coming usually from the algerian saharan atlas...
  
  though the snake feature is absent in morocco one find it a lot in eastern algeria on anklets and in very sophisticated urban tunisian gold coiled bracelets jewelled with diamonds.

  Btw BRIM means wrung in the way wet clothes are wrung to get rid of water

  Thank you! Very interesting.  They are very large and actually fit around my neck rather like a torque.

  you are right.....many westerners think they are torcs and some wear them around the neck.
  
  women used to wear them as anklets but with very large shoes to prevent them from sliding out.....i remember seeing an old picture or pohemstcard with a woman wearing them

  nice pieces there is also small ones as bracelets and long ones as belt. to find in saoura, atlas saharian and atlas aurasian until tunisia. the kabyles have them too

  Very nice, Hillary. I very much like those.  I have a similar one, Algerian, but missing the hook-clasp and the twisting in the main body. I will try to make a picture soon and have it posted.
