  • Hi Ann, this is beautiful!
  • Thank you Eva Lea, It is beautiful. I have had it for a very long time. This is the first time that I have offered it to the market and your comment made me feel very nervous so maybe I will bring it home again. It does have repairs where the bale rings have been re soldered with cold or lead solder but it is so obviously old that I could not bear to change this. It is part of a long history for the piece.
You obviously know what you are seeing.

  • @Thank you Ann. I had been looking for something like this (they call it Karkaro in the Tamashek version) for very long, either they were too expensive or someone else got them before my nose on ebay. At last, 2 weeks ago, I found one and got it. But it is not as old and precious as this one, it has similar decorative elements like this one, also from Mali, but the silver part in the metal is not very high. But it is also very beautiful, and I was very happy to get. The one you show, is obviously old and used and was worn on the Turban of Tuareg men. They put some cloth through the slings on top and attach it to the Turban. Looks terrific! Mine is definitely a pendant version without these big hooks on the top. I am really enthused about it. So think about before selling it!  Anyway, I just bought one.. so I have promised myself not to buy anything for a certain time!
