  • A good "tumar", but it is the remainder of the piece which is particularly desirable and usually absent. A very nice ensemble this way! Well done, Peter.

  • Best oart of this item is the strap, nice tumar but wonder about the turquoises in this piece. Strap is magnificient.

  • I agree, Patricia. To my mind the turquoises are an odd (distinctly unusual) variant for a traditional piece. and the major strength of the piece lies in the strap. But that is truly excellent, and, as a feature, is now seen less and less often.

  •  Nice old piece with hard to find strap type. The blue beads have been found on textiles and other types of jewelry  so it's possible they are original.  Sometimes Turkoman living in Afghanistan borders might add beads like this. i remember that Baluch carpets often have this style of bead on the tassels..as well headdresses of Turkeman young girls.

  • My reservations about the turquoises (or I'd guess glass beads) are not that they are not known to occur, but that they - rightly in my view - don't occur very often, in the very best pieces, as I don't think they are a particularly good combination with the red stones (presumably carnelians). This, I suppose, is a personal allergy on my part! Overall, the piece is a good one, but I think it is "made" by the strap. Those do occur on other pieces I have seen, too, but they are always a great addition, in my view, particularly when they are good, like these - indeed, this strap is truly excellent. Only a minority of the literally thousands of tumars I have seen (many in real life when they were around in London and elsewhere in enormous numbers) have them. And one could, also, argue that the bluish beads are attractively unusual.
